Najib Should Be Given His Chance

Right now, it is all well known that Datuk Seri Najib Razak will assume the PM ship in March. Despite the various accusations dogging him and his better half, well, he is taking over in March 09. A lot of people I know are pessimistic about Najib's capability as a PM and I too share the same doubts.

Among them,

- everywhere that he has been, he has been handed the position on a silver platter
- the dude sure does come up with interesting phrases " Change Your Lifestyle " and latest " Change Your Perception'
- he is a confirmed lalang in politics ;-)
- his other half
- the Mongolian chick thing

However, I state here that he should be given his due to perform his duties as the PM. We gave Pak Lah his chance didn't we ? .. and we know how that opportunity turned out. I think that the PMship will be his greatest and ultimate test. Najib has not really been tested as a politician / statesman, even in his positions, and the PM post will be the litmus test of what he is. Pak Lah became the PM and in the end, it is safe to say, that he has been a disappointment mildly and a disaster bluntly.

Among the reasons for him,

- he has history backing him up ( Tun Razak's legacy are on his shoulders )
- he is UMNO's last chance ( trust me, a lot of Malays are waking up to the current true face of UMNO )
- his education background ( his non Malaysian higher education ) might be useful .. "might"...

He will have this chance come March 2009, and it will be his opportunity to prove himself, provided that his team knows that fact too.

If not ... then we see la how ;-)

Anwar and 916

September 16, 2008 must have been one of the most awaited day of the year for 2008. Everyone was looking forward to see whether Anwar could do what he said he wanted to do. It did not happen but you have to give the man credit for ruffling the weathers. As of now, he is doing the offense through various channels.

I wonder what else is in his playbook ...

Ahmad n Sept 16

1) Ahmad

Whatever this Ahmad meant to say during Permatang Pauh campaign, the damage is done. In the end, he is trying to do a Hindi / Tamil movie hero thing, sacrificing himself as if he is a tragic hero who has been misunderstood. Sir, information no longer flows from you only, nowadays it can come from other sources as well. Now we have heard that he is actually a failed businessman, with his projects now on hold due to BN no longer in power in Penang. Ah, now it makes it clearer ...

2) Sept 16

I dont think that Sept 16 is going to happen due to the Taiwan trip, but one thing I have to give Anwar credit is he is scaring the holy crap out of the ruling party ... most people did not remember that he was a DPM under Tun M and was one of the fastest risers in UMNO before kena kick out. I think he has learnt a few tricks from the old man.

Let's see what Sept 16 brings....

The Shadow of DSAI

I tell ya ... DSAI is a more dangerous man outside of the Govt rather than inside. The final straw must have been the debate which in my opinion, he won hands down.

Gotta give him props for what he is doing. Whatever he does, he gets bonus points because the perception is " Berani Kerana Benar, Takut Kerana Salah " ... and the govt didn't exactly endear themselves when they arrested before the deadline. So efficient one !

Here we go, again !

The Beginning Of The End ?

The recent announcement of the Lingam report might be the start of the end of for Tun M. Well, whatever is the wayang kulit is going on .. I see a subtle shift in Pak Lah's tactics, in the way that he is slowly revealing the failings of Tun M's PM administration in order to divert attention from his own failings.

It might work , might not work ... but is Pak Lah turning into our own 'Habibie' ? ... the signs are there and rightly, a lot of UMNO folks are worried. But, they should take heart in seeing how GOLKAR ( Indonesia ) is still around, even though they are not in power. But, what UMNO needs right now is a real, no red herring, transformation, or they might be irrelevant sooner or later. What I would suggest is that they look to PAS on how it transformed itself after the 2004 elections.

Malaysian politics is getting more and more interesting nowadays ... ;-)

Hanky Panky Style Kita

Hanky Panky means something is not right or is downright fishy. Consider these two events ..

1) Drunk cigar smoking ex-minister who allegely molested bar hostess

1. Day 1 :Bar Hostess allegedly groped and molested by drunken ex-minister. Hostess with boyfriend lodges police report.

2. Day 2 : News splashed all over papers, of course identities remained secret, but the ex-minister clues were obvious. The said person was overseas .. how convenient ....

3. Day 3 : Hostess wants to tarik balik report .. claiming that she was moody at the time and may have misunderstood the incident. I see ... so conveniently, a resolution is in order.

4. Day 4 : Ex-minister in question, just back overseas, goes to the police to make a statement. I do not know of how a drunk man can remember details but maybe the cops have a better way.

2) The Balkis Story

1. Day 1 - After Selangor falls to PR ( Pakatan Rakyat ), MB's wife convenes EGM to dissolve Balkis and transfers the funds ( about 1 million ) to Bakti. According to ex-MB, it was done legally and they were concerned what would happen to the Balkis programs under PR.

2. Day 2 - Surprise2 ... the Sun blew it the story in its front pages. And from the explanations given by ex - MB, it was done out of the concern for the poor students under Balkis scholarship. And not surprisingly, a new body Balkis BN is being formed to receive the money from Bakti.

3. Day 3 - Selangor MB Khalid writes to ROS questioning rightly the legality of the whole move, which only took a few days to be concluded.

Do you agree with me that the stories above have some hanky panky going on ? Some peeps really know how to shoot themselves in the foot and hope people don't notice.

Branding of Ketuanan Melayu

I find the arguments surrounding these 'Ketuanan Melayu' very interesting, only for the perspective where these arguments come from. In a way, these perspectives echo the anchor where the respective sides are at.

In the past, UMNO has always prided itself as the ones who uphold ' Ketuanan Melayu', but recent events have shown as a few Malays have seen the credo to be transformed to 'Ketuanan UMNO', or as it is called ' Umnoputras'. Now, PKR and PAS is laying claim or at the very least, throwing their hat into the ring, on ' Ketuanan Melayu'.

I believe the Ketuanan Melayu branding should be changed. Hell, the whole idea of Ketuanan Melayu needs a major rethink.

Here are two suggestions

1. There is no Melayu UMNO, PKR, PAS, DAP.

If you are a Malay, you are a Malay. And a Malay should help a Malay, no matter what the political allegiance is, in the matters that concern the Malays in general.

This idea should be the foundation of Ketuanan Melayu.

2. Malay leaders must be open, listen and accept criticisms from the lower ranks and able to intelligently answer them.

The keyword here is intelligent. A majority of Malays are now intelligent and are able to think
for themselves. For the Malay leaders, they need to intelligently articulate their positions to the Malay people. The era of ' Angguk - angguk, Geleng - geleng ' is over.

Now, given the points above, are the Malays willing to change ? Personally, in order for the Malays to move forward, the 2 points above are the immediate and urgent ones for all Malays to consider.

Pot Calling Kettle Black

Recent statements by Tun M for the past few weeks irks me a bit. It is not so much is the truth of his words, but by the person himself. He himself has a history of 'do as I say, not as I do'. Truthfully, he is lucky that Pak Lah is an indecisive bugger. If he had half of Tun M's semangat ( during his PM years ).. I doubt that Tun M would be would still be free.

Luckily, I know and have read people with similar sentiments. The rot began from him and now the truth is filtering out, ironically, from the same people who used to kiss his ass and now defend Pak Lah .. ( Tyson, Shaberry ).

A good reading that shed light on what I suspect on Tun M came from this book " Unmaking Of Malaysia'. Interesting take on our PMs especially Tun Razak n Tun M. At times, his observations on Tun M were spot on.
